A spectacular comprehensive account of natural history, gorgeously illustrated throughout in six parts. The mixture of science and hearsay and gossip is a heady one and gives us a lovely picture of the joy associated with the discoveries of the many naturalists over this period, although the descriptions of the peoples of the world are distinctly old fashioned. 655pp. Illustrated with 16 Coloured plates plus a coloured title vignette on decorative title page, plus 14 b&w engraved plates, plus many full page illustrations and figures.
